ELLIS PATENTS GAINS GLOBAL APPROVALS

Ellis Patents, the North Yorkshire-based cable cleat manufacturer, has had its global appeal significantly enhanced by the granting of product approval from two leading international compliancy bodies – Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and American Bureau for Shipping (ABS). 

The approvals, which cover the marine and offshore markets (ABS) and a host of international markets (UL), go a long way to ensuring Ellis Patents products are suitable for virtually any installation.

Richard Shaw, managing director of Ellis Patents, said: “We have enjoyed a great deal of export success in recent years, and have firmly established ourselves as a true global player. But in order to continue developing this side of the business we really needed to add ABS and UL approvals to our armoury – especially as an increasing number of specifications specify a need for one or the other.”

Ellis Patents Alpha, Vulcan+ and Emperor cable cleats were granted both ABS Design Assessment and Manufacturing Assessment status following a successful manufacturing audit and demonstration that they had been independently tested to all the necessary standards. The products will all be reassessed on an annual basis to prove continued compliance.

Meanwhile, the company’s Alpha, Vulcan+, Emperor and Centaur cleats were granted UL listing 2239 for Conduit and Cable Hardware after a process that saw product samples and copper cable sent to Chicago for a range of tests that covered fire resistance, temperature and impact resistance and size range compliance. As with ABS, the UL listing is audited regularly to ensure continued compliance.
