Ellis Patents welcomes Royal visitor

Ellis Patents this week (Wednesday 28th, April 2010) welcomed HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York to its Rillington headquarters in North Yorkshire. 

Prince Andrew, who is the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, visited the cable cleat manufacturer following a year in which the company doubled its export sales.

Ellis Patents managing director, Richard Shaw said: “We were delighted to welcome The Duke of York to Ellis Patents. In his Special Representative role, he seeks to foster strong contacts with UK companies operating in foreign markets in order to create more positive business conditions for them abroad.

“And having secured significant orders from customers in Kazakhstan, Australia, Germany, the United States, Sweden, Norway and Hong Kong in the last year alone, our position as a UK manufacturer with a global reputation is certainly stronger than it has ever been.”

Amongst the most recent projects Ellis Patents has supplied are a nuclear power station in Scandinavia, the Kashagan oil Project in Kazakhstan, a high voltage cable tunnel in Sydney and a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) that operates in the Peregrino oil field off the coast of Brazil.

One of the key reasons for the company’s success has been its technical sell. In fact, in the case of the Peregrino FPSO project this proved to be a key factor in sealing the deal. The reason being that unlike some of its competitors Ellis Patents was in a position to provide third party certification that proved its products would withstand the forces they would see in service. Furthermore, the company was able to carry out calculations in relation to the new International Standard for cleats that ensured the spacing of the cleats was optimised in terms of both safety and cost.
